Watercolor of the USS Kineo
American, 1862
Watercolor on paper This is a superb detailed watercolor of the USS Kineo, a 691 ton Unadilla class screw steam gunboat built at Portland, Maine. She was commissioned in February 1862. She was sent to the Mississippi River and participated in numerous battles and participated in the capture of the Confederacy's largest seaport. The Kineo also spent time off the coast of Texas and was decommissioned at the end of the war, May 1865. The watercolor is signed on the lower left: "Davis/Miss River/Nov 8th/1862". The quality of the painting is the best showing great detail of the gunboat, saiklors and the shoreline with houses. Excellent condition

15 1/2" x 11 1/2" sight.
